Radical self-reliance
Nowhere is held in a harsh, isolated, exposed environment.
With searing heat in the day and plunging temperatures at night, you need to come prepared. Nowhere is not an event where all the home comforts are supplied, or even available. You are expected to bring everything you think you will need: clothing, food, toiletries, and – most importantly – water. Radical self-reliance is about taking responsibility for yourself and the people around you.
No commerce
You cannot buy or sell anything at Nowhere. No water, no ice, no food, no alcohol, no coffee, no petrol, no clothing, no souvenirs – nothing is for sale. Nowhere operates on a principle of gifting. The art projects you create, and the things you bring, can be given to others for the simple pleasure of the experience. This is not expected. A gift should be something you choose to give, and are pleasantly surprised to receive.
What to bring
We STRONGLY suggest that you bring the following:
- Enough water per person per day (for drinking, showering, washing, and food preparation)
- Enough food/beverages for your entire party (consider food that will keep well in the heat, is easy to prepare, and doesn’t have excess packaging)
- First-aid kit
- Warm clothing for evenings – it sometimes gets cold at night
- Bedding and shelter of some type. A good camping tent is recommended, along with a warm sleeping bag
- Rubbish bags
- Any required prescriptions, contact lens supplies etc
- Toiletries and toilet paper
- Flashlights and spare batteries (headlamps are useful) - to be sure you can see and be seen at night
- Sunscreen/sunblock and sunglasses
- A hat with a wide brim
- Common sense, an open mind, and a positive attitude.
Please don’t bring feathers, glitter, glass, or stuff that will easily blow away.
